Faith in public
For being the only Christian at work, on the team, at the event, or around the table—and choosing quiet integrity anyway.
Christian music for real life
Outer Witness is music for those holding onto faith, truth, and conviction while standing among the noise without becoming part of it.
The witness
“Not above the struggle. Not outside it.A voice from within it.”

Behind Outer Witness is Josh Ellis: a husband, father of three, and someone still learning what faithful living looks like in the real world. Called to care for others, live with conviction, and reflect something greater than himself.
Outer Witness is not a faceless profile, and AI is not a mask. Josh stands openly behind the message, the lyrics, the creative decisions, and every release bearing the Outer Witness name.
The story
Outer Witness was born from the tension between what the world is saying and what you know to be true. These songs come from the places where faith gets tested, conviction costs something, and doing the right thing can leave you feeling like the only person standing still while everyone else moves with the crowd. They're about doubt, courage, failure, perseverance, temptation, grace, and trying to hold onto truth when the noise gets loud.
Behind Outer Witness is someone walking that road too. I don't have everything figured out, and these songs aren't written from a place of having all the answers. They come from wrestling with questions, examining my own life, and trying to remain faithful in the middle of it.
If you have ever felt out of step with everyone around you, struggled to speak when silence would have been easier, or wondered whether one person standing their ground could matter, this music is for you. Outer Witness is about being among the noise without becoming part of it.
Where these songs come from
Part of Outer Witness was born from learning that standing for truth does not always lead to vindication or reconciliation. Sometimes it costs you the community you worshipped with, strains family relationships, and leaves your character questioned by people you once trusted.
The struggle is not only to remain firm in what is true, but to keep rejection from becoming bitterness and hurt from becoming hatred. It is learning to rely on Christ for courage without cruelty, strength without pride, grace without surrendering truth, love without pretending wrong is right, and patience when resolution may never come.
These songs come from that place
Why these songs exist
Outer Witness speaks from inside the struggle. The songs do not pretend faith removes temptation, isolation, or doubt. They make room for the struggle and point toward the hope that survives it.
For being the only Christian at work, on the team, at the event, or around the table—and choosing quiet integrity anyway.
For the person who stumbled, got back up, and needs encouragement more than another voice of condemnation.
Songs that acknowledge what hurts without letting pain have the final word.
Creative process
AI-assisted tools are part of the Outer Witness creative process. All lyrics, musical compositions, arrangements, and creative direction are human-directed. AI may be used to help realize parts of a recording, while some tracks may also include instruments performed by the artist. The technology is a creative tool within the process not the source of the artistic intent, message, or final decisions.
The work is human-directed and intentionally shaped around faith, lived experience, perseverance, and encouragement. Everything released under the Outer Witness name is published only when the legal commercial rights are held to use, release, and distribute. When AI-assisted elements require disclosure, they are credited through the release metadata. Every tool is used with the same responsibilities: respect rights, avoid impersonation, and make work with a real purpose.
Yes. Outer Witness uses AI-assisted tools as part of the music-making process. All lyrics, composition, arrangement, structure, sound, revisions, creative choices, are human-directed. Recordings may also include instruments played by the artist. AI can assist in bringing those ideas into a finished recording, but the songwriting and musical direction remain human-led throughout.
No matter who you are, young or old, full of certainty or still searching, surrounded by a crowd or standing completely alone. These songs meet you exactly where you are.
